Rod Argent is a British musician, singer, songwriter, composer, and record producer. He is best known as the founder and keyboardist of the rock band The Zombies, and as a member of the band Argent. He has also composed music for film and television. Argent was born in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England, and began playing the piano at the age of five. He attended St. Albans School, where he met future bandmate Paul Atkinson. He formed The Zombies in 1961 with Atkinson, Chris White, Hugh Grundy, and Paul Arnold. The band released their debut single, "She's Not There," in 1964, which became a top 10 hit in the UK and US. Argent left The Zombies in 1967 to form the progressive rock band Argent with his brother, Russ. The band released their debut album, All Together Now, in 1970, and had several hit singles, including "Hold Your Head Up" and "God Gave Rock and Roll to You." The band disbanded in 1976. In the 1980s, Argent began composing music for film and television, including the theme song for the British sitcom The Young Ones. He also wrote the score for the film The Return of the Living Dead. In the 1990s, Argent reunited with The Zombies and released several albums, including New World and As Far As I Can See. He continues to tour and record with the band. Argent has been married twice and has two children. He currently resides in London.
