Hugh Hefner is an American magazine publisher, businessman, and playboy. He is the founder and chief creative officer of Playboy Enterprises. Hefner is also a political activist and philanthropist active in several causes and public issues. Hefner was born in Chicago, Illinois, on April 9, 1926. He attended Sayre Elementary School and Steinmetz High School, then served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. Hefner graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and a double minor in creative writing and art in 1949. Hefner founded Playboy magazine in 1953 with $600 of his own money and built the company into one of the most recognizable American global brands in history. Hefner was also the host of the television show Playboy After Dark and the producer of the television series The Girls Next Door. Hefner has been married three times and has four children.
